Flying Scotsman begins second Scottish tour since restoration

About 800 passengers had booked tickets for two trips on the Cathedrals Express service, which set off from Edinburgh Waverley.

The engine first travelled over the Forth Bridge for a tour of the Fife coastline before returning to the capital.

The second trip saw it cross back over the Forth before entering the Forth Valley.

Claire Newton, from tour operators Steam Dreams, said: “For many people this is the trip of a lifetime and some have been on waiting lists for this trip since February 2016.”

Flying Scotsman, the first steam engine officially authenticated at travelling at 100mph during a journey in November 1934, is based at the National Railway Museum in York.
