Melania Trump: Gucci creative director DEFENDS First Lady wearing brand after criticism

One of her most famous looks was the hot pink pussybow blouse by Gucci which she wore during her husband’s second debate on October 9th 2016.

Many saw this as a bold and satirical statement by Melania after Donald was widely slammed for comments he had previously made about sexually assaulting women – telling a radio host men should just “grab them by the p***y.”

It is not known whether Gucci gifted Melania the blouse or whether she bought it herself – but the brand faced criticism anyway.

This intensified when Trump advisor Kellyanne Conway wore a striking red, white and blue Gucci coat on Inauguration Day.

Kellyanne did purchase the $3,600 coat from the Gucci Resort 2017 collection off-the rack.

And Gucci creative director Alessandro Michele hit back at detractors in an interview with The Washington Post when asked about the controversial women wearing his clothes.

He said: “We have all kinds of customers. To be against something or someone, it’s a dangerous thing.

“It’s easy to be against your enemy, but if you give them a big hug . . . . ”

Overall, Alessandro is not interested in courting controversy but did admit he found those different to him “interesting”.

He continued: “The more you are different, the more interesting. The more you are not like me, the more I want to get to know more about you.

“I’m very curious. I feel more comfortable surrounded by people not like me.”

Alessandro’s overall message at Gucci has been one of diversity and inclusion, something he is keen to continue to push.

He said: “We have to use our voice. I don’t want to just talk about dress. The way you think is important.”

Melania Trump has appeared to influence other political wives around the world – with Brigitte Macron, wife of French President Emmanuel Macron, wearing the same colour as the First Lady on her inauguration day.

Brigitte, 64, made her first appearance as France’s First Lady at Macron’s inauguration ceremony, and the suit she wore bore striking similarities with the one Melania Trump wore to her husband’s inauguration.

She wore a structured powder blue military-style jacket with a matching tailored dress along with nude stiletto heels.
